California Labor Federation Endorses Mark The California Labor Federation has endorsed Mark in Senate District 7. Click here to learn more! Mark attended two press conferences during the week of March 17 that showed the differences of understanding about the impact of the state budget crisis between Governor Schwarzenegger and the residents of his district. A commentary by Mark about these differences appeared in the California Progress Report and the Contra Costa Times on March 22. As Mark writes: On Monday, Senate President pro Tem Don Perata, Senator Torlakson, Democratic legislators and I joined educators, parents, students and community activists. We discussed what a $4.8 billion dollar cut to education will look like for kids and teachers. The press conference was held on the front lawn of a local school, open to all. On Thursday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had a “discussion” with a hand-selected crowd of mostly business leaders. It largely ignored the pain this budget crisis will inflict on working Californians. Mark Receives "A" From CALPIRG Mark was one of 11 members of the State Assembly to receive an "A" from CALPIRG for his votes "to put the public interest ahead of special interests." Click here to learn more about the CalPIRG scorecard for 2007. Mark Endorsed by Sierra Club California The Sierra Club California has endorsed Mark's campaign for the State Senate. In its letter to Mark, the Sierra Club California's Advocacy Director Bill Magavern writes, "We believe that you have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to environmental protection, and we are confident that you will continue to support strong environmental legislation in Sacramento." Mark has also been endorsed for the State Senate by the California League of Conservation Voters. Mark has earned 100 percent ratings from both the Sierra Club California and California League of Conservation Voters in recognition of his votes on environmental issues. California League of Conservation Voters Endorses Mark DeSaulnier for Senate The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) announced its endorsement of Mark DeSaulnier for State Senate on November 16. "Assembly Member DeSaulnier has a long and distinguished career as a leader on environmental issues. He is certain to be one of the most effective environmental leaders in the Senate," stated Susan Smartt, Executive Director of CLCV. "During his ten years on the California Air Resources Board, Mark helped move California further into a position of leadership on climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gases," said Smartt. For its 2007 Scorecard for State Lawmakers, the Consumer Federation of America evaluated members of the Legislature on a range of issues, including financial privacy, health care reform, cell phone customer rights, food safety, truth in advertising, and consumer product safety standards.
